Dear Parents:

It's hard to believe but it's that time of the year again - the beginning of a new school year.  And while you aren't part of the teaching staff you are just as important to your children's education as we are.

Your children receive the best education when you and our dedicated teachers work as a team.  It's a parent’s enthusiasm, support, and involvement that inspire children to do their best.

There's a lot of excitement ahead of us.  Scott County Public Schools plans to implement a 1:1 Chromebook laptop initiative during the second semester of the 2017-2018 school year in grade levels of 8-12.  There are many hurdles to overcome over the next few months to get our staff and students ready for this great adventure.  Although this project is a 1:1 initiative with grades 8-12, we will place more Chromebook labs at the elementary level to be shared among grade levels and groups.

I encourage you to fully embrace the moment and urge you to take the time from your busy schedule to become familiar with our schools, as well as, creating a homework-friendly home environment that will allow your children to excel in their school work.  Establish daily routines with your children as it relates to school and this will make studying, playing, and resting easier.  As a parent, you are your child’s first teacher.

Scott County Public Schools continue to shine in academic achievement and are blessed to have the support of its communities, civic organizations, and businesses.  Each and all play a crucial, supportive role in the education of our children.

Again, welcome.  On behalf of the Scott County School Board, we wish each of you the best as we begin a new school year.

Thank you for your commitment to your child's education.

Sincerely,

John I. Ferguson
